FDM – Fascial Distortion Model Therapy according to Typaldos
FDM is a new and effective method for treating pain in the musculoskeletal system. Developed by the American emergency physician Steven Typaldos, D.O., this method is enjoying ever-increasing popularity. Many musculoskeletal conditions that were previously difficult to treat or healed very slowly can have their recovery significantly accelerated through FDM. This knowledge is currently being used very successfully in elite professional sports.
-
The Concept: Pain is attributed to specific deformations (distortions) of the connective tissue (fascia).
-
Diagnosis through Body Language: A unique feature is that the therapist makes the diagnosis primarily based on the patient\'s pain gestures. The way the patient shows their pain points directly to the specific type of tissue disorder.
-
Treatment: These distortions are corrected with targeted manual techniques, such as strong thumb pressure, broad strokes, or traction.
-
The Goal: Immediate improvement in weight-bearing capacity and significant pain reduction, often after the very first session. It is particularly popular among athletes and for acute injuries such as sprains.
